I'm am home alone...for the first time in almost 2 weeks, I am sitting in the silence. Only my thoughts and the hum of the refridgerator and purr of the cat to fill the void.
I bet you are waiting for me to say something profound. I bet you are wondering how I am doing. I bet you want to know my thoughts on the experience of the funeral or burying my husband. I bet you want to know how I got myself out of bed this morning.
I'm not going down any of those paths. I don't have anything profound to say, I was on autopilot during the services and I don't know how I got out of bed this morning...except for the fact that the most amazingly, beautiful little girl had something to do with it.
As days turn into weeks, maybe some of those experiences will randomly be shared with you. When you least expect it, I'll share a story or a memory. Isn't that the way life goes? When you least expect it, a memory crosses your mind or a smell triggers an intense emotion. As time goes on, you'll hear more and some things will just stay in my own mind.
Some of you may have seen my Facebook status today. If there is a memory or a story you would like to share, I'm letting you take over my blog! E-mail your story to me (dana.terrones@gmail.com) or Facebook message it to me and I'll share some of those stories with all of you. What a great way to honor a great man...and a great way to learn about him even more!
I'll start...I wanted to say something at his funeral, but didn't know how to share it. It's not about him, it's just a song that I would sing to him, even more in his last few days. It's a song that I feel very strongly about because it conveys how I feel about Nic. Nic did change me for the better, and I have been changed for good. It's from the musical "Wicked". Yup, Nic enjoyed the occasional musical and he even tolerated listening to me sing them all the time!
Excerpts from For Good - From Wicked
(Glinda) I've heard it said
That people come into our lives for a reason
Bringing something we must learn
And we are led
To those who help us most to grow
If we let them
And we help them in return
Well, I don't know if I believe that's true
But I know I'm who I am today
Because I knew you
Like a comet pulled from orbit
As it passes a sun
Like a stream that meets a boulder
Halfway through the wood
Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
But because I knew you
I have been changed for good
(Elphaba) It well may be
That we will never meet again
In this lifetime
So let me say before we part
So much of me
Is made of what I learned from you
You'll be with me
Like a handprint on my heart
And now whatever way our stories end
I know you have re-written mine
By being my friend...
Like a ship blown from its mooring
By a wind off the sea
Like a seed dropped by a skybird
In a distant wood
Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
But because I knew you
(Glinda) Because I knew you
(Both) I have been changed for good
(Elphaba) And just to clear the air
I ask forgiveness
For the thing I've done you blame me for
(Glinda) But then, I guess we know
There's blame to share
(Both) And none of it seems to matter any more
(Both) Who can say if I've been
Changed for the better?
I do believe I have been
Changed for the better
(Glinda) And because I knew you...
(Elphaba) Because I knew you...
(Both) Because I knew you...
I have been changed for good.
